Post-2020 global biodiversity framework: a recipe for success

This session will discuss the draft post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF), to be adopted at CBD COP15. We will share views and discuss whether the GBF is truly “fit for purpose” to halt the loss of biodiversity. Come and express your opinion - to encourage the world’s governments to make the right decisions at COP15.

In 2021, the post-2020 global biodiversity framework is expected to be available in the form of a draft decision for adoption at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Kunming, China, following negotiations by Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity at the Open Ended Working Group third meeting (OEWG-3). This session will take place immediately after the close of the OEWG-3 (scheduled for 23 August – 3 September). It will review the draft that emerges from this meeting and highlight key points that ensure that it is “fit for purpose” to tackle the nature emergency by galvanising decisive action for nature at scale – commensurate with the challenge faced by the world. Such action is now imperative from local to global levels, from all countries and all sectors across all realms (land, freshwater and ocean) to secure the planet’s life-supporting 'safety net’.
