IUCN recognises the critical importance of facilitating the active participation of Member organisations at the IUCN World Conservation Congress.  For this reason, IUCN raises funds to sponsor Members from low- and middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) who would not otherwise be able to attend the Congress and exercise their voting rights.

To be eligible, Members must fulfil a number of conditions and in making their selection, the IUCN Regional offices aim to satisfy the geographic balance requirements across regions, ensure representation of young delegates and gender parity.

Sponsorship covers the cost of the full nine days of Congress, including travel, accommodation and subsistence. Sponsored delegates are expected to comply with a number of pre-determined requirements during the Congress, such as participation in forum events and voting during the Members’ Assembly.

IUCN is not in a position to provide financial support to participants from non-Member organisations/institutions.
