I have over 20 years’ experience in applied conservation, research, project management and policy, including 5 years in the field in Africa/Asia and doctoral/postdoctoral research on the sustainability of bushmeat and livelihoods in Equatorial Guinea.  Specialising in tropical forest conservation, interests include wildlife hunting/trade, livelihoods, protected area management/policy, climate change, primary forests, commodity certification, monitoring, biodiversity targets/indicators and safeguards.  I oversee BirdLife's support to international conventions (inc CBD, CMS, Ramsar, CITES, World Heritage & UNFCCC) and other policy mechanisms, build the capacity of NGO Partners in policy/advocacy, and manage projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America supported by the EC, GEF etc. I sit on the UK's Illegal Wildlife Trade Advisory Group and co-chaired/chaired the IUCN SSC Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group and UK Bushmeat Working Group.
