Dr Olivier JOLLIET

Professor, University of Michigan, School of Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences

Dr Olivier Jolliet is Full Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan. Dr. Jolliet has been pioneering the development of Life Cycle Assessment for food since the early 1990's, and is one of the initiator of the Life Cycle Initiative hosted at United Nations Environment. His work aims to a) compare the life cycle risks and benefits of foods, consumer products and emerging technologies; and b) model and screen population exposure and effect on health.

His latest publication in Nature food (https://rdcu.be/cuVht) shows that small targeted dietary changes of 10% of our calories can reduce our dietary carbon footprint by on third and extend our health life by close to 50 minutes per day, with e.g. 36 minutes of healthy life lost per hot dog and 25 minutes gained per serving of nuts.
