Sue Wells obtained her Bachelor and Master degrees at Cambridge University and has been involved in marine and coastal conservation throughout her career. She has worked for international organizations, NGOs and governments, including TRAFFIC International, WWF International, the IUCN Eastern Africa Regional Programme, United National Development Programme, Natural England, National Trust (UK) and Fauna and Flora International.  She is currently an independent consultant.  She has particular expertise in marine protected areas and the assessment of protected area management effectiveness (PAME), and has helped to adapt assessment methodologies to the marine environment. She co-ordinates the IUCN WCPA Marine MPA Management Effectiveness Task Force and is a member of the Green List Standard Committee.
