Mr Stuart LAING

Researcher, University of Seychelles

Stuart Laing is a marine economist with expertise in non-market valuation techniques, having used these to elicit use values of the coral reefs in north-eastern South Africa and southern Mozambique for his Masters project. He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science and a researcher at the Blue Economy Research Institute, at the University of Seychelles. In Seychelles he has been involved in projects estimating an environmental tourism levy for visitors to the islands, working with UNECA on a Blue Economy valuation toolkit, updating the adaptation component of Seychelles' second NDC and several marine monitoring projects. At the IUCN Conference, Stuart is representing SeyCCAT - Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust - where he is on the Finance Committee. He works closely with CEO Angelique regarding ideas surrounding SeyCCAT's exploration into the Blue Carbon space, and provides technical support when needed.
