Philippe Sands QC is a British-French Professor of Laws and Director of the Centre on International Courts and Tribunals at University College London, as well as a barrister at Matrix Chambers.  An international law specialist, he appears as counsel and advocate before many international courts and tribunals. Sands is also the award-winning author of East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes against Humanity (2016).  In 2021 Sands co-chaired the Independent Expert Panel for the Legal Definition of Ecocide convened by the Stop Ecocide Foundation.
