Mr Mike HOFFMANN

Head, Species Recovery, Zoological Society of London

Mike Hoffmann is currently based at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) where he heads up the organization’s cross-cutting conservation programmes. Prior to joining ZSL in 2017, he served as the Senior Scientist to the SSC, providing high-level technical, scientific and policy leadership to the Commission. A mammologist at heart, he is also a generalist, with extensive experience in international species conservation and biodiversity-related policy, across inter-governmental (IUCN), non-governmental (ZSL, Conservation International, UNEP-WCMC) and academic (University of Oxford, University of Pretoria) sectors. He sits on the SSC Steering Committee, is the former Chair of the IUCN Red List Committee, and has been instrumental in the development of various IUCN SSC policy guidelines and documents, the IUCN Green Status of Species standard, and KBAs. He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed papers and edited six books.
