Puri Canals has a BSc and PhD in Biological Sciences, Barcelona University (1986 & 1996). She works as international free-lance consultant on marine and coastal conservation. She’s the President of MedPAN (Mediterranean Network of MPA Managers) and promotes MPA networks across the Atlantic and South-East Asia as Coordinator of EU Transatlantic MPAs, and Ocean Governance Projects. Member of the Advisory Councils of Fundación Biodiversidad (Spain), Sustainable Development of Catalonia, and Scientific Council of Conservatoire du Littoral (France); and IUCN Commissions on Education and Communication, and Protected Areas. IUCN West Europe Regional Councillor (2000-2008); Vice-president (2004-2008) and President of Preparatory Committee of IV WCC Barcelona 2008; President of DEPANA, Catalonia (1994-2010)
