Dr David OBURA

Director, Coastal Oceans Research and Development - Indian Ocean (East Africa)

David Obura is a Founding Director of CORDIO East Africa, a knowledge organization supporting sustainability of coral reef and marine systems in the Western Indian Ocean. CORDIO takes research to management and policy, builds capacity, and works with stakeholders, managers and policy makers. David’s primary research is on coral reef resilience, in particular to climate change, and the biogeography of the Indian Ocean, and recently expanding this to sustainability science based on coral reefs as a model.

At the start of the decade leading up to 2030, integrating biodiversity, climate and societal concerns are focal areas for David's work, pivoting around the Sustainable Development Goals, new global biodiversity targets to be identified in 2021 and climate action.
