Ms Chrissy Grant is Eastern Kuku Yalanji in Cape York and Mualgal from the Torres Straits Elder, working at the international and national levels with over 35 years’ experience working with communities on cultural heritage management and conservation and protection of natural resources. As Chair of the AIATSIS Research Ethics Committee for 12 years, she reviewed the Ethics Guidelines with a strong focus on the protection of Indigenous peoples’ IP, FPIC, and data management. At the local level, she developed The Madja Code of Practice for the Eastern Kuku Yalanji peoples focusing on their rights, cultural protocols and best practice ethical standards that they should expect from any research or major projects. She now focusses on working with Traditional Owners of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics, both of which are World Heritage Areas across her traditional lands and waters.
