Mr Alain BILLAND

Directeur Impact Marketing de la Science, CIRAD

Alain Billand is director for Impact and Marketing of Science at Cirad.  With a background in forestry, he was a researcher for 6 years in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso working on forest natives species. He further spent 10 years in a consulting company working on biodiversity conservation, protected areas and the sustainable management of natural resources in tropical, Mediterranean and Eastern Europe countries. At Cirad he was head of the Research Unit in tropical forestry and lately the Director of the Department Environment and Society. He has a long term geographical focus in Africa, mostly Central, Western and Northern regions, with spot missions in Latin America and South East Asia. He is today in charge of 50 staff providing strategic intelligence and guidance to 800 researchers for the acquisition and supervision of Cirad's portfolio of projects to achieve the Center's scientific missions and sustain its financial resources.
