Building a culture of conservation through new alliances and strengthening the agency of key actors

Why attend
This session will explore the synergies, conflicts, contradictions among different actors and different ways in which decisions are made, and behaviour is being shaped, with attention to intrinsic values, biocultural values, human rights, sustaining livelihoods, well-being, and economic development.
HideDescription
Using an exploratory inquiry-based approach, two framing presentations on #NatureForAll and Flourishing Diversity will set the stage by sharing concrete challenges and solutions to leverage the Union to move beyond “behaviour change” into the transformative “culture change” we need to truly respond to the cascading challenges of biodiversity loss, climate crisis, social inequities, and the COVID-19 pandemic. A multi-sectoral panel will then provide their thoughts on strategic directions for IUCN to engage in the global discourse on transformative change and how to concretely employ the unique IUCN Union to create the catalytic changes required within the Post 2020 Biodiversity process, the post-COVID recovery processes and within society at large. Critical perspectives from youth, Indigenous Peoples, business and government will help frame the panel and provide the breadth of view needed to envision a shift toward a global culture of conservation and care.
