Oil impacts in Uganda and DRC | The role of indigenous and local communities

Nile, Murchison Falls National Park, Budongo central forest reserve and many others.

The purpose of this session is to present to the youth, women and other interested stakeholders from different countries the impacts of oil activities in the border areas of Uganda and DRC and to share lessons and experiences of what CSOs and local communities are doing to resist and defend environmental and human rights. We will showcase the mobilization of local civil society and communities who are engaging presidents, local governments, companies, the international community and others to say no to oil activities while promoting just energy transition. This struggle is a Movement of Resistance comprised of four components focused on bringing CSOs from DRC and Uganda as well as many others together to mobilize, unite and take up the fight to protect critical biodiversity areas from oil exploration, forever.
