The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the media group France Médias Monde (FMM) have joined forces in partnership for the IUCN World Conservation Congress to be held from 3-11 September 2021 in Marseille, France.

As official international media partner, France Medias Monde will cover the IUCN Congress on their television and radio channels, reaching a broad and diverse constituency both in France and around the world. The group in charge of French international broadcasting comprises the news channel France 24, and the radio broadcasters Radio France Internationale (RFI) and Monte Carlo Doualiya (MCD). France Médias Monde will operate an on-site radio studio at Congress and will be hosting the prize ceremony for their ePOP contest during the event. The event and its themes will be a focal point of programming on their channels during this time.

As a French media group with a global profile and audiences around the world, France Médias Monde is the ideal partner to raise wider awareness for the pressing conservation issues discussed at the IUCN Congress in Marseille”, says Dr Bruno Oberle, IUCN Director General.

“With over 250 million viewers each week across its 20 broadcast languages, France Médias Monde’s international channels cover environmental issues day in, day out, as part of its efforts to drive progress in major global causes. Our journalists will bring their considerable expertise to cover the IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Marseille, a major event that helps to raise awareness and spur action around the world to tackle climate change and protect biodiversity. Our ePOP initiative, which will play a substantial role at the Congress, further demonstrates our ability to develop viable, unifying and meaningful projects by building on the reputation of our media outlets. Our ultimate goal is to shape the world of tomorrow, and in the word of Albert Camus, real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present, which is exactly what we are trying to do,” says Marie-Christine Saragosse, Chairwoman and CEO, France Médias Monde.

As the first hybrid event on nature since the start of the pandemic, the IUCN Congress is offering both in-person and virtual participation options. It is a milestone conservation event at a pivotal moment, as the world prepares to define goals and action items to address the climate and biodiversity crises over the next decade and beyond. This makes the Congress a priority event for France Médias Monde to report on for their international audiences.
