Ex-situ as a conservation action

Why attend
This discussion panel is an invitation to explore successes and the different tools that ex-situ activities offer for species conservation. The session will also allow you to recognize different Ex-situ conservations roles and learn how these activities can complement In-situ conservation.
HideDescription
Article 9 of the Convention of Biological Diversity recognize Ex-situ conservation as an activity complementarity to In-situ measures. A number of species have seen their Red List conservation status improved through programs that includes different ex-situ roles defined in the IUCN Guidelines on the Use of Ex Situ Management for Species Conservation. In recent years, more IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Specialist Groups are working adding ex-situ components.
