APAC, the 1st Africa-wide gathering for leaders, citizens, and interest groups will discuss protected areas in conserving nature, safeguarding Africa’s iconic wildlife, delivering vital life-supporting ecosystem services, promoting sustainable development while conserving Africa's cultural heritage. The objective of APAC is to position Africa protected and conserved areas within the broader goals of economic development and community well- being and to increase the understanding of vital roles parks play in conserving biodiversity and delivering the ecosystem services that underpin human welfare and livelihoods. APAC will be hosted by the Government of Rwanda and convened by IUCN and AWF. It will take place as a hybrid event from 7th to 12th March 2022 at the Kigali Convention Center. APAC wants to ensure that Government Protected Areas, Community conserved areas and the private sector are equitably represented, and can engage in various events.
