Linking Indigenous Knowledge Bank and Nature-Based Solutions for Disaster and Climate Resilience

African communities have always lived in harmony with nature. They developed knowledge to find out solutions to problems posed by nature. Indigenous knowledge (IK) is crucial in adapting to climate change. It allows grassroots communities to improve their living conditions. It however tends to disappear. Nature Base Solutions NBS is an advantage.

Indigenous Knowledge Bank (IKB) identifies and validates existing and partially forgotten African knowledge and coping strategies, which can be used in response to climate change impacts. Information collection is developed through consultation with existing networks, local communities and interest groups. Once gathered it is digitized, indexed and stored in a database. A web-based platform has been developed to facilitate the sharing and dissemination of this database. A series of communication materials, including policy briefs, videos on best practices, on the role of traditional seasonal climate predictions, DVD, documents compiling good practices, posters and leaflets, have been produced and disseminated to a large audience to promote the IKB. Nature Base Solution use same type of Knowledge at communities level . NBS is a very challenging tools and could support community to improve their livelihood through best practices developed.
