Launch of the African Nature-Based Tourism Platform

Why attend
This press conference will launch the African Nature-Based Tourism Platform, a project which is facilitating access to Covid-19 relief and recovery funding for communities, nature-based tourism enterprises, and conservation areas in 11 countries across southern and eastern Africa.
HideDescription
The Covid-19 crisis has crippled economies and industries all over the world, and nature-based tourism has been one of the leading economic casualties. For many Southern and Eastern African countries, this means a significant loss of funding for their conservation operations, local community livelihoods, and tourism enterprises. In response, with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the African Nature-Based Tourism Collaborative Platform will connect funders to the communities and small and medium enterprises most in need of funding support. The session will give an overview of the project, key partners involved, an on-the-ground perspective from one of the focal country project partners, and a brief overview of the importance of this work for conservation and livelihoods in Africa.
