Ecosystem engineering and species eradication through genetic engineering? Fundamental questions for nature conservation

Why attend
Should Conservationist genetically engineer wild species and entire ecosystems in order to mend the consequences of human activity or to adapt the natural world to human needs? Attend this session to discuss these fundamental questions with us ahead of the vote on Resolution 075 at the IUCN Members’ Assembly.
HideDescription
This event will provide explanations and examples for why the question on whether to genetically engineer ecosystems via synthetic biology and gene drives not only merits a broad, inclusive and fundamental debate among IUCN Members but also extra scrutiny regarding its potential risks and consequences as well as ethical pitfalls before the IUCN should adopt a position at a later Members Assembly.
