Green Infrastructure and Ecosystems for DRR: the need of highlighting successfull stories

A solution increasingly encouraged by the global research and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) communities is the investment in ecosystem-based approaches also called Green or blue Infrastructure (GI) (Sebesvari et al., 2019). GI is defined as “strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas with other environmental features designed and managed to deliver a wide range of ecosystem services such as water purification, air quality, space for recreation, climate mitigation and adaptation, and management of wet weather impacts that provides many community benefits” (UNISDR, 2017; p. 96). Although there are plenty of opportunities for applying GI for DRR, scaling-up implementation of these solutions has proven challenging so far (e.g. green vs. grey solutions). In addition, GI in the risk context is rarely addressed from a ecosystem/community resilience perspective (Sebesvari et al., 2019; Browder et al. 2019). Highlighting the successful stories represents a gap to address.
