Celebrating the Sunset of IUCN’s Retiring Resolutions

Why attend
This speaker pitch will provide an opportunity to look back at the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned over 70+ years of policy influencing as IUCN prepares to retire the majority of its more than 1,300+ adopted Resolutions, and discuss how to apply these lessons to advance the global conservation movement.
HideDescription
This Speaker Pitch would provide an opportunity for IUCN Members, Commission members, and other interested parties to look back at the accomplishments and impacts of IUCN’s Resolutions and Recommendations on global conservation policy. This has included setting the agenda through the publication of the World Conservation Strategy and Caring for the Earth, laying the groundwork for several environmental treaties and conventions, and highlighting emerging issues in conservation. Critically, such an event would not merely dwell on the past, but would provide the space for an honest consideration of the lessons learned from these soon-to-be retired Resolutions and Recommendations. The session would turn to a discussion of how to take those lessons forward to ensure that the Union is able to leverage its future Resolutions and Recommendations to have the greatest influence on conservation policy at all levels.
