Candidate info

Particular qualifications to be a Regional Councillor:
I have served as a regional Councillor since 2016, and I have been appointed by Council as Chair of the Programme and Policy Committee, which is one of the three Standing Committees. As Chair, I have served on the Bureau. As a Councillor, I have actively participated in multiple Task Forces and Working Groups that the Council has established as well as liaised with Senior Leadership in the Secretariat. Having had the privilege and honour to serve the membership of IUCN in the Council has been a great joy and I do hope that I will have the opportunity to continue serving for four more years. Before I was elected Councillor at the Hawai’i Congress in 2016, I was Chair of the IUCN National Committee in Sweden and during my active years in IUCN (since around 2006) I have built up a broad network – and gotten many good friends!

Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:

I have spent most of my working life between nature and culture, trying to create meeting places and structures of competence for a greater understanding of the interaction between humans and the natural surroundings. As a field researcher, as a senior official working in a regional governmental agency, as a director general at Scandinavia’s largest Natural History museum, as a board member, and as a chair of various organisations I have strived to get opposite interests to work together. Since 1994, I have interacted with IUCN in various positions and assignments. I have been impressed by the competence, the experience and the energy which so many members, both in the organizational members, in the Commissions and staff in our Secretariat show. My work experience ranges from local to international level. In my assignments, I have been responsible for project management, leadership skills, civil defence, interaction with the indigenous people of my country, and for environmental monitoring and protection of nature. I have worked with national parks and World Heritage areas, with ancient monuments, sacred places and the immaterial remains in our surrounding landscape. IUCN is truly a global organization, and I hope that I will be given the confidence to continue working as a Regional Councillor for our vision: A just world that values and conserves nature! We need IUCN more than ever. Our World needs IUCN!
