Particular qualifications to be a Regional Councillor:
I have founded and run one of the largest conservation NGOs in India, Wildlife Trust of India, which will provide a strong base for the post if elected and have been in international executive committees that give me exposure to governance. I have served in several national and regional governmental committees and have been a member of the Indian government delegation to CITES, UNESCO, CBD and CMS for over 20 years. I am fluent in English (am a published author) and have associates and colleagues in over 50 countries which will help in spreading the IUCN mandate. I am proficient in science, fundraising, organisational strategy and communication.

Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:

I have been associated with IUCN for over 20 years in both the Species Survival Commission, with the Motions Working Group, and the India and Asia Regional Offices. For the SSC, I am on their Steering Committee for the quadrennium and Chair of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group that I took over amidst dysfunction and restored to an active and progressive group. I am currently also on the Conservation Translocation Specialist Group. For the WCPA, I am also on the Connectivity Conservation Network. I have served on three other groups in the past. I have attended four World Conservation Congresses and several other IUCN meets.
