Candidate info

Particular qualifications to be a Regional Councillor:
I am a lawyer, specialized in environmental law and policy, with a particular focus on biodiversity. I'm a passionate advocate of nature. I have more than 12 years of experience working on the environment in the civil society sector, as a consultant, editor and teacher. I am currently responsible for projects on forests, species, wetlands, coastal-marine ecosystems and protected areas, among others, and I have been following the negotiations of the Convention on Biological Diversity since 2010. I am aware of the challenges and problems, but also of the opportunities and values of my region, from a socio-environmental perspective, as well as on a global scale. I believe I have a number of additional skills that would help me satisfactorily achieve my duties as a counsellor, such as active listening and an ability to understand other perspectives and to work in multicultural contexts. I am organized but flexible, I can multitask and meet tight deadlines, and I have a good knowledge of planning and institutional management tools.

Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:

I have been involved in IUCN for almost a decade. First, and given my professional background, I joined the Commission on Environmental Law, and soon after, those of protected areas (WCPA) and environmental, economic and social policy (CEESP). I attended numerous events organized by IUCN's Sur Office, in Argentina and in other countries in the region. Since 2015, I am coordinating the Argentinean National Committee, and I chaired the South American Committee from 2017 to 2019. I actively participated in the design and development of the 2019 South American Conservation Forum, in coordination with members of the South American Committee and other components of the Union. I attended and actively participated as the focal point of Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (FARN) in the 2011, 2015 and 2019 Regional Forums, as well as in the 2012 and 2016 World Conservation Congresses, attending events as a speaker and leading and co-sponsoring motions that later became official resolutions. For the 2016 Congress, in Hawai'i, I was a member of the IUCN Motions/Resolutions Working Group. Moreover, I also actively participate in calls for inputs from IUCN to develop position papers and in members’ consultations, among others.
