Both the French Ministry of Ecology and IUCN have active policies in favour of gender equity and its integration in all their actions and programs.
This is also applicable to the Congress, where the gender mainstreaming strategy for IUCN events and the anti-harassment policy for IUCN events have been implemented and widely communicated to all organisation team members, session organisers, exhibitors, suppliers, participants and partners.
IUCN and the French government aim to:
- Promote and strive for equal participation of all men and women as well as equitable interventions/speaking time
- Strive for gender parity in the selection of speakers and composition of panels
- Put in place measures that allow all attendees to experience an event free from harassment
- Prevent sexism and combat gender stereotypes to ensure that gender inequalities are not perpetuated
- Ensure that a gender perspective will inform session planning; and
- Promote and advance IUCN’s work and policies on gender in conservation and sustainable development.
These actions have been audited by the French reference certification organisation AFNOR and the Large Event Gender Equity label was granted to the Congress organisation on 12 August. This label certifies that an event was prepared with respect for equality between women and men. An onsite verification visit will be conducted during the event to ensure that the principles were also observed during the event.
