Transforming Nature and People: a social-ecological systems approach

Pourquoi assister à cette session?
The climate crisis is rapidly transforming what we cherish -- so how can you steer your conservation initiative rather than be swept along by the current?
HideDescription
This session will help you transform social-ecological systems in crisis. It begins with a synopsis of strategies for “transformative conservation,” presented by Dr. Dorian Fougères (formerly with the State of California Tahoe Conservancy). Then Mike Jones (Adviser, Swedish Biodiversity Centre) provides a brief introduction to foundational systems practice concepts. Session participants will then apply these concepts by collaboratively mapping the “system” for three exceptional case studies: 1. Palm Oil and Deforestation in Borneo – Speaker: Rosa Ortiz Quijano (Consultant and Université de Sherbrooke) 2. Ecocivilization and Ecological Redlines in China and Southeast Asia – Speaker: Dr. Alice Hughes (Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences) 3. Rights of the River in Aotearoa New Zealand & Western Canada – Speaker: Dr. Makere Stewart-Harawira (University of Alberta) Plenary reports & discussion will conclude the session.
