Why attend
Learn about indigenous led conservation proposals in Canada and how one of the the sub-national governments, the Province of BC, while having committed to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, has yet to endorse these indigneous initiatives that are necessary to achieve global conservation and climate imperatives.
HideDescription
Indigenous People in British Columbia (B.C.), Canada are working hard to develop solutions to the global climate crisis, biodiversity crisis and advance equity for indigenous peoples. This press conference will highlight three of the Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAS) proposed by First Nations in British Columbia. These IPCA's are consistent with the Canadian commitments to protect 30% of the Canadian terrestrial territory by 2030. Support for these IPCA's from the sub-national government is not manifesting, even though the Province of B.Cc has made a commitment to reconciliation and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
