Community Forest Landscape Restoration - the AREECA programme (ACTUAL TIME 11:15-12:00)

Why attend
Learn about the work of the Alliance for Restoration of Forest Ecosystems in its African partner countries. Discuss with high-ranking decision makers their land restoration approaches and opportunities for community restoration in the context of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (examples from Cameroon, Malawi, Kenya and Rwanda).
HideDescription
Increased degradation of terrestrial ecosystems is hitting rural households in Africa hard and endangers biodiversity and livelihoods. This event presents comprehensive forest landscape restoration (FLR) to combat the degradation trend. The Alliance for Restoration of Forest Ecosystems in Africa (AREECA) program brings together IUCN, GIZ, WWF, FAO, WRI, AUDA-NEPAD; World Bank in a number of African countries to develop and implement FLR interventions at the level of selected land areas of each partner country. The program promotes additional FLR funding, and increases the level of ambition for FLR in partner countries through better knowledge management and sharing, including impact monitoring and learning. The partners will report from their work and will discuss restoration opportunities with the audience, professionals and high-ranking decision makers in the context of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, linking national perspectives with the international framework.
