Governance and management – New approaches and resources from the BIOPAMA Programme to support protected areas

Why attend
The Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) Programme assists the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries to address their priorities for improved management and governance of biodiversity and natural resources. BIOPAMA provides a variety of tools, services and funding to conservation actors in the African, Caribbean and Pacific.
HideDescription
Good governance and management of protected and conserved areas are critical for achieving conservation outcomes in an effective and equitable way. Protected area (PA) agencies, managers and stakeholders need easy access to available tools and methodologies to assess and support PA management effectiveness (PAME) and PA governance and equity (PAGE). They also need help in planning and implementing assessments at site and system level, and in analysing, visualising and reporting key results from such assessments. This event will provide an overview of new PAME and PAGE approaches and resources that are supported by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and its partners. We will briefly introduce the Integrated Management Effectiveness Tool (IMET) that has been applied to over 100 PAs in Africa and is now mandatory.
