Visitors count! Guidance for protected areas on the economic analysis of visitation

Why attend
We introduce a new guideline on how to assess economic impacts of protected area tourism (employment, income, PA finance, tax revenues): “Visitors count! Guidance for protected areas on the economic analysis of visitation”.
HideDescription
The session introduces the concept of PA tourism economic impact assessment (direct, indirect and induced economic effects), and illustrates how the required data (visitation figures, visitor spending profiles and economic multipliers) can be obtained considering the site-specific circumstances and financial resources at different PA. Finally, policy implications of such assessments are addressed by showcasing how sustainable tourism strategies can be developed. Presenters: Barbara Engels, Anna Spenceley, Jan Philipp Schägner.
