Agriculture and Land Health: the common ground between agriculture and conservation

Why attend
Agriculture uses 40% of land and accounts for 70% of fresh water use. There is great potential to scale up farming practices that safeguard food supply by conserving the biodiversity on which it depends. Courageous leadership is needed to exploit the common ground, where sustainable farming conserves biodiversity and protects agroecosystems.
HideDescription
This Dialogue aims to strengthen commitments at the Food Systems Summit, CBD COP15 and UNFCCC COP 26 to restore biodiversity through sustainable agriculture. Farming depends on nature, but also contributes to biodiversity loss, for example through soil degradation and habitat loss. Sustainable agriculture restores land health, conserves soil biodiversity and maintains ecosystems that provide many services to society, including climate regulation and water supply. This dialogue between senior agriculture and conservation stakeholders will examine policies to protect biodiversity in agricultural ecosystems. It will explore sustainable farming at the heart of food system transformation, supporting productivity, sustainability and resilience, while equitably distributing benefits to society.
