Investments in natural capital, how to effectively achieve SDGs? A timely training for islands!

Why attend
Participants will learn from cutting-edge cases how to build the business case for nature conservation investments, to better inform and profound decision-making with ecosystem services’ evidence and to maximize socioeconomic outcomes (e.g. employment, health) and impact (e.g. SDGs 8 and 3).
HideDescription
The session aims to help practitioners build a case for nature conservation investments in islands. The business cases to be discussed and developed during this session will focus on the use of evidence on nature conservation results to inform management and prioritization of investments which maximize positive, ecological and social impact. Two case studies will be used to demonstrate how investing in ecosystems results in ecosystem services that deliver benefits to human wellbeing and contribute to sustainable development in the Caribbean. A case in the Turks & Caicos Islands will illustrate the use of evidence on the environmental “return on investment” in nature management to leverage economic and financial systems. A second case, in Aruba, will show the links between ecosystem services and Sustainable Development Goals as the basis to prioritize investments.
