Preservation of tropical forests and terrestrial biodiversity: How to mobilize actors to efficiently tackle imported deforestation?

Why attend
Tropical forests and remarkable ecosystems play a major role in the mitigation of climate change and the preservation of unique biodiversity. Facing the degradation of fragile tropical ecosystems and landscapes caused by various extractive activities, it has become urgent to mobilize grassroots partnerships and provide science-based evidences.
HideDescription
Tropical deforestation and the rapid degradation of valuable ecosystems and landscapes are more often caused by the production of agriculture-based commodities (soya, beef and derived products, wood, palm oil, cocoa ...) and non-agricultural products (rubber, minerals ...) In order to effectively tackle deforestation and the degradation of outstanding ecosystems, a global, participative and inclusive mobilization implementing cross-commodities and landscape-based approaches can make the necessary changes on a sufficient scale. It is not only about the survival of many animal and plant species, but also our collective survival. Objectives: To inform stakeholders about the means of action that are made available in order to preserve ecosystems while providing decent livelihood to local populations. & To showcase innovative solutions developed by the private sector with local actors, with the participation of scientists and policy makers.
