Designing and implementing ecological compensation that helps achieve biodiversity targets

Why attend
As governments and industry increasingly embrace the need to compensate for impacts on biodiversity, and improve the performance of biodiversity offsetting, this session demonstrates a new approach to ecological compensation that contributes strategically to achieving biodiversity conservation targets.
HideDescription
This interactive training session demonstrates target-based ecological compensation for impacts on biodiversity. Members of a multi-stakeholder working group will guide participants through the fundamentals of biodiversity offsets, and introduce target-based ecological compensation as a more strategic alternative that can yield better outcomes for both business and biodiversity. It will cover what constitutes a suitable target; how to link compensation for biodiversity impacts to the achievement of biodiversity targets; what are the enabling conditions and data requirements for this approach, and how to adapt the approach for different jurisdictions and contexts. It will involve short presentations, group discussions in break-out groups (run in English, French and Spanish), and interactive activities. By attending the session, participants will understand the fundamentals of target-based ecological compensation, and how it could be implemented in their jurisdiction or organisation.
