Nature is under unprecedented stress. The IPBS estimates that one million species are currently threatened with extinction. Biodiversity is central to humankind. Without it, our entire livelihood and economies are at risk. Our current linear economic model of take-make-dispose puts tremendous pressure on resources and by extension on nature and biodiversity. The Global Resource Panel estimates that 90% of biodiversity loss are caused by resource extraction and processing. The circular economy aims to decouple growth from resource extraction and can alleviate pressure on biodiversity and constitute a powerful lever. By using new business models such as lifetime extension, or product as a service, we can decrease this stress on nature and allow it to regenerate. During this session, we will discuss: • How can circular economy drive nature positivity? • What are some of solutions business already bring to the table? • What barriers remain? • How they can be addressed?
