A Cultural Heartbeat for the Future of Nature: putting culture in the centre of the post-2020 agenda

Why attend
Join leading global organisations in a dynamic session focused on unpacking the links between cultural and natural diversity, reintegrating culture and nature in international policy and environmental practices, and debating the priorities for a fresh and ambitious agenda for culture at the heart of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
HideDescription
This session will bring together UNESCO, IUCN, CBD, ICOMOS, ICCROM and other partners, with representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities to reflect on progress made towards linking biological and cultural diversity in international policy making, national and local practices. The dialogue will help plan and set priorities for engaging with culture, in all its diversity, to achieve the transformative change necessary for a sustainable future for both nature and peoples on this planet. Presenters and participants will respond to the IPBES Global Assessment 2019, the 10-year UNESCO-CBD programme on biocultural diversity, and the role of culture in nature-based solutions. The workshop will focus on building momentum, ambition and practical proposals for a transformative action plan on nature and culture to be launched at the CBD COP in Kunming, China in October 2020, new connections to support the achievement of the SDGs, and the position of culture in the IUCN Programme.
