Fostering Inclusive Conservation: how to better support indigenous peoples and local communities

Why attend
Saving biodiversity requires engaging and supporting indigenous peoples and local communities. Large development projects can threaten biodiversity and indigenous peoples. This session will look at safeguards and FPIC and how to create the conditions for projects driven by indigenous peoples.
HideDescription
The principal focus of the session will be to discuss the implementation of FPIC in the context of large environmental projects – showing how projects can protect nature through inclusion and opportunities for indigenous peoples and conservationists to engage and shape projects. The session will also provide an opportunity to give a brief update on the progress with the Inclusive Conservation Initiative and GEF’s activities with indigenous peoples.
