Implementing the IUCN Best Practice Guidelines on the Cultural and Spiritual Significance of Nature in Protected and Conserved Areas and Developing Good Practice Guidance on Recognising and Respecting ICCAs Overlapped by Protected Areas.

Why attend
Learn about the key messages of the IUCN Best Practice Guidelines on the Cultural and Spiritual Significance of Nature in Protected and Conserved Areas and now in-development international guidance on recognising and respecting ICCAs overlapped by Protected Areas.
HideDescription
This session presents the new IUCN Best Practice Guidelines on the promotion and integration of the cultural and spiritual significance of nature in the governance and management of protected and conserved areas. The session also introduces in-development international guidance on appropriately recognising and respecting territories and areas conserved by Indigenous peoples and local communities (ICCAs) which are overlapped by protected areas. The new IUCN Best Practice Guidelines volume highlights the significance that nature and natural features have for Indigenous peoples, local communities, followers of mainstream religions, and the general public. International guidelines on appropriately recognising and respecting territories and areas conserved by Indigenous peoples and local communities (ICCAs) which are overlapped by protected areas are a work-in-progress that will identify good practices for doing so within existing as well as new protected areas.
