This session aims at assembling the bricks and changing the deal to put into practice the Memorandum of Understanding concerning Conservation Measures for Marine Turtles of the Atlantic Coast of Africa. In 1999, West and Central African Countries took commitment through a Memorandum of Understanding concerning Conservation Measures for Marine Turtles of the Atlantic Coast of Africa. However, twenty years after, the situation on the ground is alarming. The Atlantic Coasts of Africa are home to five species of sea turtles all of which are classified on the IUCN Red List from “Vulnerable” to “Critically endangered”.
