Linking Doctors to Protected Areas. Unlocking the biggest resource conservation isn’t using

Pourquoi assister à cette session?
There are nearly 70 million healthcare workers on the planet. They represent an intelligent and skilled resource with societal status and influence. What’s more, the health of the planet is a topic highly relevant to them. This session offers practical ways to use this under-utilised resource in support of the conservation of protected areas.
HideDescription
This session covers the major concepts of Health and explains why it must be linked to the wellbeing of planetary ecosystems to make any sense. It reviews current developments in this regard culminating in the modern idea of Planetary Health. It then reviews our practical experience creating partnerships between the medical community and protected areas in order to recruit and utilise medical professionals in support of conservation. It discusses what exactly doctors can do for Rangers and Local Communities and how this helps improve the future potential of the protected areas. It then presents the impact on doctors, demonstrating the transformative experience they have and how this impacts their role paradigm and activity when at home. Doctors represent the single greatest untapped resource we are not using to support and sustain our protected areas. This session presents a method to unlock their potential.
