IUCN Programme 2021-24 Development
The new IUCN Programme Nature 2030 was developed over an 18-month period, involving multiple rounds of consultation and revision from across the IUCN constituency, planned for finalisation at the World Conservation Congress in Marseille in June 2020. In February 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world, requiring revisions to this timeline, with the World Conservation Congress moved to September 2021, and the Programme finalised through an online vote of IUCN Members in February 2021.
Members' proposals on the IUCN Commission Mandates
The mandate of each Commission, including name, mission and terms of reference, is established by the IUCN World Conservation Congress. Prior to each ordinary session of the Congress, the IUCN Council reviews the terms of reference and activities of each Commission.
Following the IUCN Council decision to submit some agenda items to an electronic vote of IUCN Members at the beginning of 2021, these proposals were adopted on 10 February 2021. For more details, please refer to the ‘decisions for e-vote prior to Congress’ page on the Congress website.
