Dr Daniel BARSHIS

Associate Professor, Old Dominion University

Broadly, I am a marine evolutionary ecophysiologist and study the mechanisms and drivers of stress tolerance in reef-building corals. I am currently an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. I received my undergraduate degree from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, MS and Ph.D. from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, a served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA and NOAA Fisheries in Santa Cruz, CA. My work employs a combination of field transplantation, controlled acclimation experiments, and advanced genomic techniques to uncover the relative roles of adaptation and acclimatization in determining coral tolerance limits and sensitivity to climate change impacts.
