Environmental Law Roundtable Dialogue: The Future of Environmental Law in Oceania

Environmental Law is creating a new wave of environmental progress in the Pacific. This session will address the priority areas identified for advancing environmental law in Oceania during the recent Inaugural IUCN Oceania Environmental Law Conference held in conjunction with the 2nd World Environmental Law Congress.

Environmental Law in Oceania has developed over the years but it continues to encounter challenges during implementation, enforcement and compliance which in turn impacts the effectiveness of conservation measures. Advancing Environmental Law is critical to addressing the urgent and existential environmental challenges that impact Oceania and especially the Pacific Islands who have extreme exposure to the impacts of the global environmental crises affecting the oceans and climate. The recent IUCN Oceania Environmental Law Conference brought together Judges, legal practitioners, academics and conservationists where issues and challenges faced by environmental law were discussed. The Roundtable Dialogue brings together an esteemed panel of speakers to discuss the outcomes the important role of law in nature conservation in Oceania and the strategic opportunities for IUCN and its partners in implementing the priority areas identified in the Conference Outcomes Statement.
