Planet on the Move: Challenges and Solutions of Migration and Governance in the Face of Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Conflict – What is Conservation's Role?

¿Por qué asistir a esta sesión?
The increase, impact and scale of the movement of people and other species resulting from extreme weather, environmental change, violent conflict, and slow onset disasters pose threats to natural and human systems, with enormous impacts on conservation efforts. This session explores an integrated approach to addressing migration and its challenges.
HideDescripción
Migration questions increasingly feature in global environmental and climate change policy discussions, a topic seen as a key challenge of today and tomorrow’s global governance, where regional and national frameworks are promoting safe and orderly migration. Integrating local communities and authorities into the decision-making processes through enhancing both the capacity and representation of those most affected by environmental and climate change, is increasingly paramount to creating equitable, sustainable solutions. The session will launch a new draft publication by IUCN CEESP highlighting up-to-date knowledge at this intersection of issues within a conservation context, which includes other species on the move. Contributing authors from a cross-cutting selection of migration, development, humanitarian and conservation organisations will share key takeaways and recommendations from the publication including input from the recent IUCN report on Conservation and Conflict.
