Recognising, Supporting and Reporting Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures

¿Por qué asistir a esta sesión?
A definition and criteria for the term 'other effective area-based conservation measures' has been adopted by the CBD (2018) and IUCN has published a Technical Report and Assessment Methodology (2019); this session will help actors (government, private, Indigenous, local) to recognise, support and report OECMs across landscapes and seascapes.
HideDescripción
While the term ‘other effective area-based conservation measures’ is new to many conservation stakeholders, the concept is having profound effects on conservation ‘beyond protected areas’. This Campus session will: 1) introduce the definition and criteria for OECMs, providing an overview of CBD Decision 14/8 (2018) and the IUCN Technical Report on ‘Recognising and Reporting OECMs’ (2019), and 2) assist participants to apply IUCN’s guidance in their own work. Participants will be asked to prepare a case study on a ‘potential OECM’ in their country. During the Campus, they will be able to apply the Methodology through participatory and engaging group and individual work. The session will allow feedback in breakout sessions and to the whole group, to build a collective understanding. The session will lead to an ongoing community of practice, with participants able to engage with OECMs at the local-to-national levels, identify ‘potential and candidate OECMs’ and assess individual OECMs.
